KPOP Friday Merry Christmas!

Happy Friday and Merry Christmas!

Today was a great day at school! I received two packages from the States, one from my Mom and Dad and one from my older sister Shannon! It is always so nice and comforting to get something from home. It made my day (Christmas Eve). Mom, Dad, Shannon, Megan, Ali, Katie thank you so much for the presents and I miss you!

Presents from American at my desk at school!
Christmas plans: Tonight I am going to the Nutcracker in Seoul put on my the Universal Ballet Company. I am a huge Nutcracker fan; I have probably seen it over twenty times (thanks Mom and Dad) and it never gets old. After the show, most of my American friends and I are going to have a Christmas slumber party at my friend Eric's apartment in Guri, full of egg nog and attempted Christmas Carols on the piano he found in his apartment. Tomorrow we are planning on opening our Secret Santa presents and eating a home cooked brunch. A pretty solid holiday if I do say so myself!

During the last two weeks of classes I have been teaching my kids about Christmas and Hanukah. Each kid had to write a letter to Santa in English, telling him what they want for Christmas this year. Here are the top 5 things kids in Bucheon want for Christmas.

1. So much money
2. Girlfriend/Boyfriends (one kid wrote hotties)
3. House
4. Ipad or Galaxy Tab (Samsung's Ipad)

Going along with the holiday theme, I am going to leave you with a little Korean holiday music. The first video is of SHINee and Kara performing Christmas songs at a Christmas special. The next is a Christmas themed commercial for Korean Baskin Robins. It has 2NE1 guest starring in it!

KPOP FRIDAY and Pepero Day!

Happy Friday! and Pepero Day! (well Pepero Day was yesterday.)

Pepero Day is on November 11th each year. It is a holiday created by Lotte (a massive company in Korea). On Pepero Day you exchange Pepero's (chocolate covered pretzel candy made by Lotte) with people you like or love. Therefore, it has grown to be a mini Valentines Day in Korea. Pepero Day in school was awesome. Since I am still the only white girl in school, everyone still thinks I am beautiful and amazing. So pretty much all of the kids still love me and gave me Pepero. I think I may have eaten upwards or 15 boxes of Pepero and by the end of the day I was completely Pepero'd out. Overall, completely commercial holiday, but who can hate on a candy holiday. Pepero Day gets a thumbs up from me.
As for KPOP Friday, I want to leave you with a good weekend song from 2NE1. The song is called "Can't Nobody." It is extremely popular and even made its way into my middle school's talent show (check out my Bugok Middle School Festival video here.) I have been loving on 2NE1 since I got here and I can't wait from them to come out with some new stuff soon.

Please enjoy 2NE1 "Can't Nobody." Have a great weekend!

KPOP FRIDAY (tuesday)

Sorry I missed last weeks KPOP video. I was in Busan for my first Korean vacation and it was great. Pictures and stories from Busan are soon to come!

I did not want to jip anyone on their KPOP. Here is a song called Lollipop by Big Bang and 2NE1. I actually heard this song while I was in America. Once I got here I was reintroduced to it and fell in love again.

Please enjoy Lollipop by Big Bang and 2NE1!

KPOP FRIDAYS

Happy Friday everyone!

This week went by so fast! My time at school makes the weeks fly by and before I know it it's time to meet up with all of my Wisconsin friends in downtown Seoul to go out for the weekend and explore the city. Tonight we are all going to meet in an area of Seoul called Hongdae. Hongdae is where the largest/best art university in South Korea is. This area of Seoul is known for its "Korean Hipster" scene and the copious amounts of clubs and bars. I am so excited to spend a weekend here with some good friends!

As I am sure all of your have been waiting anxiously for this: here is the KPOP video for this week. The group is called 2NE1 (read as twenty-one). All my girl students love them and they have a new hit song that I have gotten many recommendations for. The song is called Clap Your Hands. ENJOY!
